My Life As A Bush: ...and My Heart for Imitating Jesus by John Morgan

5.0 out of 5 stars The Impact of Impersonation!

Description:

Renowned presidential impersonator John Morgan illustrates how the same principles that helped him mimic President George W. Bush are actually biblical precepts that can encourage believers to become authentic imitators of Jesus Christ. These laugh-out-loud stories reveal how much fun being "Dubya" can be, but they also demonstrate that underneath Morgan's presidential exterior is a man who strives to be like Jesus.

John Morgan’s own journey from brokenness to redemption is no less dramatic than Dubya’s own rise to the highest office in the land. As a model church-going teenager. Morgan wore a convincing façade on Sundays, but his mask hid a dark side characterized by alcohol, drugs, and lust until he was powerfully liberated through the truth of the gospel in his early twenties. Now he travels the country as an impersonator, bringing joy and inspiration to millions of astonished people who might otherwise never have an audience with the “president.”

Discovered at a Bush for President rally in 2004, Morgan suddenly went from selling appliances to performing at arenas all across America, appearing live before tens of thousands on Sean Hannity/Oliver North’s Freedom Concerts and before hundreds of thousands on the WinterJam Tour Spectacular, where he amazed audiences with his guitar playing and singing. Millions more have seen him on Headline NewsHannity & Combs, E! Entertainment Network, ABC’s The View, and Family Feud.

My Review ~

John Morgan's story is both amusing and inspirational. The story of his life as an impersonator of former president George W. Bush is filled with humor. His personal testimony regarding his impersonation of Jesus is a beautiful spiritual parallel. When John discovered his resemblance to "Dubya" he began developing the skills involved in impersonating the former president. He practiced facial expressions and physical mannerisms in front of the mirror, and listened to recordings made by the former president, perfecting his accent and speech patterns. In tandem with these forms of impersonating the former president, John honed his skills at impersonating Jesus. John communicates examples for tuning out the negative voices in our heads, eliminating our insecurities, and practicing our own impersonations of Jesus. No props are necessary in the quest to imitate Jesus. Read God's Word, imitate the life of Jesus, and practice obedience. Questions for reflection and meditation are included at the conclusion of each chapter, adding to the teachings the author offers in this well-crafted book. Several photos of John in various venues are also included in this book, adding to the entertaining qualities of this story.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading the story of John Morgan's life as an impersonator of George "Dubya" Bush and the humorous adventures he has encountered throughout his career, and appreciate the valuable lessons in the art of impersonating Jesus. I highly recommend this book.
