Biography
Susan Meissner is a multi-published author, speaker and writing workshop leader with a background in community journalism. Her novels include A Fall of Marigolds, named to Booklist’s Top Ten Women’s Fiction titles for 2014, and The Shape of Mercy, named by Publishers Weekly as one of the 100 Best Novels of 2008. A California native, she attended Point Loma Nazarene University. Susan is a pastor’s wife and a mother of four young adults. When she’s not working on a novel, Susan writes small group curriculum for her San Diego church. My Thoughts ~
Hollywood in the late 1930s was awhirl with the filming of Gone With The Wind. Two young women seek new lives in Hollywood for entirely different reasons, but their lives will be intertwined throughout life. A young single man plays a large role in the lives of both girls.
Although this novel begins with the filming of a well-known feature film, the plot is based on relationships and how those relationships transform. The similarities and differences regarding those friends is the underlying challenge throughout this novel. Friendships change as various circumstances affect their lives. Individual ambitions both strengthen and weaken those friendships.
A variety of social issues make this an interesting and heightening drama of family discord, ambition, deception, jealousy and greed. Characters are strong and the transformation of these individuals was unpredictable for the most part. Stars Over Sunset Boulevard kept my attention throughout.
