When a letter arrives from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, Angela and Rose decide to visit Aunt Silvia, their mother's Mennonite sister, in the heart of Amish country. This vacation could provide the opportunity both sisters need to sort out their issues. And yet instead of finding a new way of connecting with each other, Angela and Rose discover surprising family secrets that add to their strife and threaten Rose's romance with a new beau.
Through it all, the two sisters must find the faith necessary to face their personal problems and allow God to restore hope and healing to their hearts and relationship as only He can.

My Perspective ~
Kate Lloyd has woven a tapestry of life through family relationships. Sibling rivalry and jealousy between Angela and Rose is reason for their unyielding behavior. The recent loss of their mother has caused an even greater breach in their relationship. A visit with their aunt in Lancaster County, PA creates more stress in their capricious kinship.
Characterizations and descriptive elements create a natural flow that I found impressive. The evolution of each individual is realistic and believable. Life is messy and unpredictable, and this author draws lives together in a tangible manner, with intensity and sentiment. I loved the unique characteristics and personalities that are divulged through revelations of the past and ruminations of the future.
Relationships and individual secrets and dreams are the premise upon which this story is based. Divulged information and intimate conversations shed new light on family dynamics and what may hold them together or tear them apart. I felt myself grounded by this story of life, and I read slowly and deliberately as I absorbed the realities of a sisterhood I've never experienced. I highly recommend this poignant book, a travel through a delicate time of life.

My sister is almost 11yrs younger than me, so by the time I was a teen and then moved out, she was still in elementary school. Never really had an adult relationship with her as we live in opposite ends of the U.S. now. I rarely get to fly home because of cost.

I love Kate's books. I've never been disappointed in any of them. I've always left 5 star reviews on her books. She brings the characters to live, she will touch your heart, and sometimes she has left me with tears. Also, there is a riveting storyline, sometimes she will bring out something in the book that will be what I've been praying about. If you haven't read any of her books then I highly recommend anything by Kate.
ReplyDeleteWow, many thanks, Pat!
