Biography
Valerie Ackermann has a BA in Theology and has been a full time Children's Ministry Director at Parkwood Community Church in California for over 10 years. She is also a weekly Sunday school teacher, wife, and busy mom of two boys ages 9 and 11. She has hands-on experience as a children's ministry professional, teaching and leading children of all ages. Growing up in a Christian family in the small town of Saskatchewan Canada, she has wonderful memories of knowing God from an early age. She has a passion for kids to know the deep truths of God.

My Review ~
The God Puzzle is a very comprehensive workbook for parents and children. This is an excellent tool for parents in a one-on-one situation with a child or children in a family situation. Each child needs a copy of this book since it is very personalized as the child works through the lessons. The use of scripture and memorization of Bible verses is relative to each lesson, and a complete picture of the Bible is presented. Numerous questions are broached and answered in an elementary, practical and understandable manner.
This book is very educational in a colorful and enjoyable format. Some activities involve crossword puzzles, word searches, fill in the blanks, etc., and are fun and add a sense of play to the study. Colorful examples are used as appropriate illustrations, visuals that a child can relate to with ease. At the end of each lesson are sections entitled (1) Read It, where Bible verses are listed, (2) Talk About It, where a discussion time and questions are listed, and (3) Talk To God About It, where the child can reflect and write his or her own prayer letter to God.
Any elementary age child, even junior high children, should be able to understand the information provided in this book, and to participate in the activities provided. I would use this with a child over a period of time so as not to overwhelm him/her with too much information too quickly. A lesson each week would be ideal, emphasizing the lessons during the week to keep the child in tune with the lesson learned for that week. I found this book helpful as an adult, having had a limited exposure to a relationship with God as a child.
