Mike Berenstain (born December 21, 1951) is an American writer and illustrator of children's books. The son of Stan and Jan Berenstain, he continues the Berenstain Bears series of picture books that his parents inaugurated in 1962.

Michael Berenstain was born in Philadelphia. He studied at Philadelphia College of Art and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.

Mike Berenstain's earliest work in the U.S. Library of Congress catalog was published in 1976: K'tonton on an Island in the Sea by Sadie Rose Weilerstein, which he illustrated as Michael Berenstain (Philadelphia: Jewish Publication Society of America). The third K'tonton book, it features "Adventures of a thumb-sized Jewish boy who must fend for himself when stranded on an island." During the next three years he wrote and illustrated four instructive picture books published by David McKay, The Castle Book and sequels on ships, armor, and lighthouses. He first collaborated with his parents by illustrating two picture books, The Day of the Dinosaur and After the Dinosaurs (Random House, 1987 and 1988), after which he did several dinosaur books himself. He is credited as a creator of his family's bear family beginning in 1995 as illustrator of the Bear Scouts subseries. Mike continued the Berenstain Bears with his mother following Stan's death in 2005, and took over creation of the series after Jan's death in 2012. His older brother Leo Berenstain is involved in management of the franchise.

My Review ~

"The Berenstain Bears Keep The Faith" is from the Living Lights Berenstain Bear books published by Zonderkidz. These books help children learn how God wants them to live every day. "Keep The Faith" is a high quality paperback book, colorful and much the same as the original Berenstain Bears collections. This particular book is intended for children ages 4-8, and is appropriate for that age group. The illustrations are very well done, giving children a wonderful visualization of the story. 

The story describes how Brother and Sister Bear enjoy playing with their friends, and the activities that they enjoy. One of their friends, Ferdy Factual was like his Uncle Factual, a scientist bear. Ferdy offered to bring his telescope to their house so that Brother and Sister could observe the moon, which they enjoyed very much. When Sister exclaimed that "God certainly did a good job" Ferdy asked "Why mention God?" Sister explained that God created everything, but Ferdy disagreed stating that he doesn't believe in God. Brother and Sister were confused and asked Mama and Papa about believing in God. Mama and Papa explained that their beliefs were based on faith in God, but Brother and Sister didn't understand Faith. Mama and Papa suggested talking to Preacher Brown about faith. Preacher Brown told the bears the story of Daniel and the lion's den. He then explained that it was Daniel's trust in God that saved him from the lions. Trusting in God's love is what faith in God is all about. 

"The Berenstain Bears Keep The Faith" book is well written and well illustrated, and an excellent tool for teaching early elementary school aged children about God. The lesson is directly from the bible, and is easy for children of that age to understand.
