Interview with Author, Amanda Flower!
Interview with Nancee
By Amanda Flower
Do you, or have you kept a
journal at any time?
I
haven’t in recent years, but I used to keep one in middle school. I should read
my old journals because they would be informative to the middle grade mysteries
I write, but I can’t bring myself to do it. I cringe to think of what my
twelve-year-old self thought about the world.
Is there any one person or
situation that has influenced you in your writing career?
I
would say that my biggest influence in my writing career is my agent. She is my
coach, editor, advocate, and friend. When I told her that I wanted to write for
children, she helped me pursue that even though it was a departure from my
adult cozies and children’s books are a tough market to break into.
What is your favorite genre
if/when you have time for reading for your own pleasure?
Mystery.
It always has and always will be mystery. I just love figuring out whodunit!
As an author of 3 different
genres, do you ever have trouble keeping your thoughts straight?
Most
of the time I do okay, but every once in a while a character from another
series will show up when I’m writing. Grandfather Zook from Appleseed Creek
appeared in a children’s book I was writing recently.
Do you have any specific ideals
or aspirations as an author?
Ultimately,
I hope one day to be confident enough in my writing career to retire early from
being a librarian, so I can be there for my family more often. I love being a
librarian, and it will be a very difficult decision when the time comes.
Do you have any pet peeves or
quirks that you're willing to share?
I
can’t think of any pet peeves right now, but I bet I have some. You should ask
my brother. He knows how to push my buttons. I have many quirks. Probably the
oddest is sometimes I rock back and forth when I write. I have been told it is
quite amusing.
Approximately how many hours a
day do you spend writing in an average day?
For
me it really varies between my work days and days off from the library. I can’t
really say between weekdays and weekends because as a librarian I work many
weekend days too. On a work day, I write an average of two hours. One a
non-work day, it’s much higher, and I write an average of eight hours.
Thank
you so much for the interview Nancee!
Thank you, Amanda, for taking the time to answer some questions regarding what your readers might like to know about you, I appreciate your time and look forward to reading more of your books in the future!
